Keeping in touch is now called social media! Whether you want to follow the doings of your children, know what people round Ireland, or round the world are saying, or share your news, views, interests, you can do it all from your computer.

Try out these new ways to keep in touch, and you will have lots of creative fun. Remember to be careful what information you disclose about yourself. Once you say it on the web it is there forever.

Social media is free to use. If you have set up lots social locations to promote yourself or your business, you may want to update all the locations from one single site. To find out how simply email me at info at a1computers.ie with Social Media in the subject line.

Is Twitter for the Birds?

Is Twitter for the Birds? Twitter allows you to key in and read messages of up to 140 characters using you phone, or your computer. You can read about and reply to opinions, news, and events.

Visit Twitter website and key in #nama into Search field at the top. This will bring up conversations about Nama. You can take part in the conversation.

You can ask for advice or suggestions on Twitter. It you set up a Twitter account, it means your friends, or customers can follow what you are saying. Twitter is great when you need to find the latest news fast. A message on Twitter is called a tweet. Twittering is also called microblogging.

A blog is an online diary where entries are written in chronological order and displayed to show the latest entry at the top. You can share your hobby, opinions or business using your blog. On your blog you can put pictures, music, video clips, and examples of your work. You can update your blog from any computer.

Blogs are a great way to share a hobby or interest, as other people can add their comments to what you display. Many businesses start out with a blog before setting up a website. One of the easiest blog sites to use is Wordpress website

NL 41 Facebook the most Social of Social Media Facebook is simply a website where anybody can keep in touch with family, friends and fans anywhere. Facebook is very popular with younger people who have busy social lives and what to keep up with what everyone is doing.

Facebook is great for families to keep in touch. You can limit who sees what you put on Facebook by opening the privacy settings tab and selecting the options right for you. If you have a charity or interest group you can set up a page for that on Facebook and make announcements there.

A business can set up a business page and advertise on Facebook. Facebook adverts are cheap and allow you target specific age and interest groups. Facebook website

LinkedIn for Business and JobsLinkedIn for Business and Jobs

For people in business or looking for a job LinkedIn website is very useful. Check out a business to see what they do, what recommendations they have received, and who they are connected with.

If you are looking for work, put up your experience and qualifications and what you are looking for. LinkedIn as a business networking tool is very effective. Put up any business query you have and you will receive very helpful replies. You too can build your profile by answering queries from others. LinkedIn is useful for getting a introduction through someone who knows someone.

Delicious for Research

Delicious for Research Delicious is a social bookmarking website where you can store and share bookmarks to websites. This means you can get at your bookmarks from home, work, the library or a friends computer. You can share your bookmarks, so your friends, co-workers and other people can view them, for reference and collaboration.

Other people may have bookmarked very useful sites around a particular topic, and now you too can see their bookmarks. You can see whether 2 or 1000 people found that site useful. Delicious is very useful for students, researchers, journalists, and hobbyists. Try it at Delicious sweets
